Limit Texas Holdem Poker Strategy – In playing a game, you will definitely need a lot of strategies that you can do to win. There are several things you can do that are very different in Limit from its No Limit variant.

For example, drawing on your hand becomes much more workable. Let’s say you are at the start of a tournament and the blinds are $20-$40 and your chip stack is $3000. If you get into middle position with something like KQ and the Flop coming AQT, it might be worth mentioning that $40 bet to see the Turn cards. You’re getting a big chance on your money to chase this hand at this point and your opponent doesn’t have an “all-in” club to hit your head on.

Flush draws also become more interesting because your opponent can’t make the pot odds so heavy against you because he can’t bet enough at one time. Also hands with middle pocket pairs like 8-8 become worth seeing Turn with even if the over card comes on the Flop. Not only is your hand great, your strength will pull your set in this and there’s little your opponent can do to stop you. In No Limit you have to honor cards on the flop with your middle pair and you may have to call big bets to see the Turn. In Limit, you can see that Turn cards are usually quite cheap.

Another factor in Limit is that because it’s cheap to get into (you usually don’t have to call a lot of big pre-flop raises), you’ll see players limping with a wider variety of hands. This means several things. One, if you notice this, start raising with whatever hand you were playing before the flop and you will be intimidating the table immediately after the flop. Two, if you are in a pot with one other player, don’t assume he has an Ace if the Ace hits the Flop. He may play something like KT and even if he does bet, it’s often worth looking at another card just because the price is right. You will find many players will take the lead with bets on the Flop and then slow down and check the Turn and/or River when they realize you are not going.

Limit Holdem can be much more difficult than NL, simply because you can’t push other players out of their hands easily. That way when you do get involved, your opponents will suspect that you have something premium and treat you accordingly. You don’t want to be the player everyone is trying to use just because they suspect you’re playing a lot of trash. Tighten up and make the hands you play count.
